What to Expect in Counseling with Me
Successful psychotherapy begins with creating a space where you feel comfortable sharing your life. At The Woodlands Counselor, I am committed to providing a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment that fosters your personal growth and lasting change. While it’s completely normal to feel nervous at first, many clients find that their initial anxiety quickly fades. In fact, many report feeling significantly more hopeful about their future after just one session.
In our time together, I will ask insightful questions, listen for patterns, and help you connect past experiences with current thoughts and behaviors. While I actively engage in the process by offering support and encouragement, I am also straightforward when needed, guiding you with clear, constructive feedback.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet your needs. To help you feel better more quickly, I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address symptoms like anxiety or sleep disturbances, as well as techniques to manage stress. In cases where trauma is affecting your well-being, I may use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help you process and heal from those experiences. Once you start feeling better, therapy often progresses more swiftly.
Most clients don’t remain in therapy with me for long periods of time. Instead, many experience significant improvement early on and continue to make strides, returning only occasionally for a “tune-up” or when life’s challenges arise. It’s not uncommon for clients to refer friends and family members to me as well.
